Questions To Ask in a Job Interview

We should understand that job interview is an interaction and interviewee is usually given the opportunity to ask specific questions. In fact, we could interview the employer as much as they are interviewing us. Both sides should walk away feeling convinced that the job could be a match.

Eventually the tables will be turned during an interview and even if the interviewer doesn’t provide us with an opportunity to ask question, we could take the initiative. This way, the interviewer could see us as an active individual and this could significantly change the dynamic of the job interview session. We could alter the perception of hiring manager and the interviewer could have the opportunity to obtain details that we may not have otherwise revealed.

In fact, interviewers expect is to ask at least a couple of questions. If we are less prepared and don’t ask questions, we could appear disinterested or even less intelligent. Ideally, we should prepare at least four questions, in case some of the questions are immediately answered during the interview process.

During job interviews, many people ask a question for the sake of it and to actually benefits from our questions, we should think carefully about things we need to ask. Our questions could easily make or break any job interview session. If we are not thoughtful or if we ask things that have been addressed previously, our questions could us hurt more than they can help. It is imperative to ask engaging, smart questions. They could help us get a good sense of our future role in the company:

Here are questions we should during any job interview sessions. We can ask:

  • Who held the position previously and why he/she left the position.
  • How an ideal candidate is defined for the position.
  • What the interviewer like most about working in the company
  • What is the timeline for making an employment decision and when we could expect to hear from them.
  • Whether there are people that we may need to meet to complete the interview process.
  • What distinguishes the company from the competition.
  • Whether we will have the chance to meet the manager and staff after the interview session
  • What is the company’s culture.
  • How success is defined in the company.
  • How the person would go through their typical day in the office.
