Expanded Duties Dental Assisting Requirements
Title: Dental Assistant qualified to perform expanded functions
Basic requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a Graduate Dental Assistant (GDA), Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), OR Possess at least 400 hours of dental assistant work experience
  • Complete a NHBDE approved dental assistant course/exam for each desired expanded function.

Radiography Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a Graduate Dental Assistant OR Complete 400 hours of dental assistant work experience
  • Complete a NHBDE approved expanded duty course with a minimum of 8 lecture and laboratory hours
  • Pass the national DANB Radiation Health and Safety Exam (RHS exam) or Certified Dental Assistant Exam (CDA exam)
  • Apply to the board for state certification
