Expanded Duties Dental Assisting Requirements

In order to perform coronal polishing procedures under the direct supervision of a dentist, dental assistants in the state of Alaska must hold a certificate in coronal polishing. In order to obtain a certificate in coronal polishing, the dental assistant must:

  • Submit a notarized application form with application fee
  • Complete a board approved program of instruction OR be licensed/certified for coronal polishing in another jurisdiction

Radiography Requirements

Alaska does not currently have any radiography requirements. Any dental assistant can perform x-rays and operate radiography equipment.
